Toothbrushes are handy tools that can help you in many ways. In fact, they can clean your teeth and gumline and help you have the top-notch oral health and smile you deserve. It’s important to use your toothbrush regularly so you can benefit from its help. To tell you a little more about toothbrushes, our dentist, Dr. Mandy Nicacio, is happy to share some toothbrush facts, which are:

-It’s best to use a soft-bristled toothbrush when you clean your smile. The soft bristles can clean your teeth as well as care for the gums.

-The first toothbrushes made contained bristles that were hog or horse hairs.

-It’s best to avoid sharing your toothbrush with anyone. Sharing saliva, oral bacteria, and sometimes even blood from the oral tissues can promote problems.

-It’s strongly encouraged to brush twice a day for two minutes each time.

-Both electric and manual toothbrushes can effectively clean and care for your smile. So, when choosing between the two tools, your preference is all that matters.

-The toothbrush was selected as the No. 1 invention Americans could not live without in 2003.

-The first electric toothbrush was invented in Switzerland in 1954.

-In the past, toothbrushes that were made with badger hair were more expensive than toothbrushes that were made with pig hair.
